Freedom for the Impossible: Embracing God's
Limitless Power
When Jesus said, "All things are possible for one who believes," He wasn't exaggerating or speaking metaphorically. He was stating a fundamental truth about God's nature and power. Our view of Jesus shapes every part of our lives, and if we don't believe that God is both willing and able to impact every area of our existence, we'll naturally close those areas off from His influence.
Do We Limit God's Power in Our Lives?
Many of us section off parts of our lives from God's influence:
• Some believe poverty is a badge of honor because they think God hates money
• Others feel trapped in generational curses or cycles of abuse
• Many struggle to believe God cares about their daily needs
But the God we serve is limitless. He cares about every detail of your life—your family, your job, your home, your vehicle. He not only cares, but He has the power to back up that care with supernatural intervention that defies the laws of nature and human capacity.
What Does the Bible Say About God Doing the Impossible?
Throughout Scripture, we see God flexing His muscles to show what He's capable of:
• Samson lifting the city gates weighing approximately 8,000 pounds (Judges 16:3)—a physical impossibility for the human body
• Daniel spending a night in a lion's den and emerging unharmed (Daniel 6)
• Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego walking through a fiery furnace without even smelling like smoke
• Lazarus being raised after four days of death and decomposition (John 11)
How Did God Part the Red Sea?
In Exodus 14, the Israelites faced an impossible situation—the Red Sea before them and Pharaoh's army behind them. When Moses stretched out his hand, God divided the waters and even dried the ground beneath. Psalm 77:19 beautifully describes this moment: "Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters, yet your footprints were unseen."
This highlights our human problem: we rely on our five senses and our own capabilities to navigate life. While we can do great things, we are fundamentally limited. We get tired, we have physical limitations, we need rest and food. But God is not limited.
Does God Still Do Miracles Today?
The problem comes when we project our limitations onto a God who has none. We think, "If I can't do it, then He can't." But Numbers 23:19 reminds us: "God is not a man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?"
The same God who parted the Red Sea, who helped a shepherd boy slay a giant, who kept Daniel safe in the lions' den—that God does not change:
• "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever" (Hebrews 13:8)
• "For I the Lord do not change" (Malachi 3:6)
There is no expiration date on God's promises. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in you. If He saved then, He saves now. If He healed then, He heals now. If He provided then, He provides now.
How Should We Respond When Facing Impossible Situations?
When facing the impossible, we need to take some specific actions:
1. Clear the Room of Doubt
In Mark 5, when Jesus went to raise Jairus's daughter from the dead, He first cleared the room of mourners who laughed at Him. He only allowed Peter, James, John, and the girl's parents to stay.
Sometimes when you're believing God for the impossible, you need to limit the influence of doubters. This doesn't mean being rude, but it does mean being selective about who you share your faith journey with.
Not everyone will stand in faith with you, even if they love you.
2. Rebuke the Hindrance
In Matthew 16, when Peter tried to discourage Jesus from going to the cross, Jesus responded firmly: "Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me." Jesus recognized that while Peter was the vessel, he was being used by the enemy to create doubt.
Your battle is not against flesh and blood. Sometimes, the people closest to you may unintentionally become hindrances to your faith. Your mind is not a dumping ground for everyone's insecurities and disbelief.
3. Praise Before the Victory
In 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat faced an impossible battle against a vast army. His response? He put the worshipers at the front of the army to praise God. "And when they began to sing and praise, the Lord set an ambush against the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir" (v.22).
Sometimes in the middle of your impossible situation, you need to start praising God and worshiping Him out of faith, declaring His faithfulness before you ever see the victory.
Can God Really Solve My Impossible Problem?
Look around at the testimonies:
• People freed from addiction• Healing from conditions doctors said were permanent
• Provision in times of famine
The God we serve is not bound by our restrictions or understanding. The freedom we have in Him means we can see the impossible happen because of who He is—not because of who we are.
He can restore your marriage, bring your children back, fix generations of family dysfunction, and provide when everything around you says "no." In Genesis, Isaac sowed in a famine and reaped a hundredfold return in the same year—defying the laws of nature.
Life Application
This week, I challenge you to identify your "impossible" situation and approach it differently:
1. Clear your room: Be intentional about who you share your faith journey with. Surround yourself with people who will stand in faith with you, not those who will feed your doubts.
2. Fight the right fight: Recognize that your battle isn't against people but against spiritual forces. Don't waste energy arguing with doubters—focus your energy on standing in faith.
3. Fill your environment with worship: In your car, at home, through earbuds at work—surround yourself with declarations of who God is. Praise Him before you see the victory.
4. Declare God's faithfulness daily: Remind yourself and your situation of who God is and what He's capable of doing.
Ask yourself:
• What areas of my life have I sectioned off from God's influence?
• Who are the people I need to surround myself with during this battle?
• Am I treating God as my last resort or my first response?
• What would it look like to praise God in the middle of my impossible situation?
Remember, the God who parted the Red Sea, raised the dead, and healed the sick is the same God you serve today. All things are possible for those who believe.
