There's a profound difference between knowing about someone and truly knowing them. I might know facts about a celebrity—their birthdate, hometown, favorite foods—but that doesn't mean I know them personally. The same applies to our relationship with God. Many people know about God. They can recite Bible verses, explain theological concepts, and acknowledge His existence. But as James reminds us, even demons know God exists! True relationship goes beyond intellectual knowledge to heartfelt connection. Loving God means seeking His presence, listening to His voice, and valuing His ways. It means moving from information to intimacy. When we truly know God, we recognize when something contradicts His character or Word because we've spent time with Him. We develop spiritual discernment that comes from relationship, not just research. This kind of knowing transforms us. We begin to see the world through His eyes, value what He values, and desire what He desires. Our priorities shift, and our hearts align more closely with His. Today, ask yourself: Am I pursuing knowledge about God, or am I pursuing God Himself?
Bible Verse
"Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." - John 17:3
Reflection Question
What practical steps could you take this week to move from merely knowing about God to developing a deeper, more intimate relationship with Him?
Quote "You can know about God. You can have a knowledge that God exists. You can even say, oh, there's a higher power that's not loving God. In fact, James even makes a statement that even the demons know God. So basically, you're out of there with the demons. Good job, little buddy. You know that there's a God. That does not mean that you love God."
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for times when I've been content with knowing about You rather than truly knowing You. Draw me into deeper intimacy with You. Help me to seek Your face, not just Your hand. I want to know You, not just facts about You. Transform my knowledge into relationship. Amen.
